When Los Angeles Unified School District began talking about closures (due to the COVID-19 outbreak), the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities (LATLC) Emergency Committee immediately reached out to partner charities that might need support providing meals to students dependent on school breakfasts and lunches. Within 24 hours, LATLC arranged an emergency grant ($10,000) to Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, a network of charter schools where 93% of their students are low-income.
In addition to funds, LATLC provided 500 tote bags for the grab-and-go meals distributed at their hub location in Sun Valley (northern LA County). Taking extra precautions, LATLC’s wonderful executive director Lissa Zanville delivered the bags on her own!
The LATLC created its Community Emergency Committee following a discussion that took place during a Trial Lawyers Care Committee meeting at the AAJ 2018 Annual Convention.
